NAIJAGOSSIP / POLICIES
Privacy Policy Your data, explained.
This policy explains what NaijaGossip collects, why we use it and the choices available to readers and creators. Effective 1 March 2026.
Information you provide
We store account names, email addresses, role, public profile details, article and music submissions, comments, reports and order references. Uploads may include the audio and artwork you choose to provide. Payment card details are entered with Paystack and are not stored by NaijaGossip.
Usage and security data
We record article reads, sustained-listening play events, permitted downloads, sessions and aggregated revenue. A random httpOnly listener identifier reduces duplicate play/download counting. Session cookies keep you signed in; verification and reset tokens are stored as one-way hashes and expire automatically.
Why we use information
We use data to operate accounts, publish and moderate content, deliver licensed files, prevent unauthorized downloads, provide receipts, respond to complaints, measure genuine engagement, improve editorial coverage and secure the platform. We do not sell personal information or use private upload metadata for advertising profiles.
Storage and service providers
Our secure cloud database stores platform records and uploaded media is kept in private cloud storage served through signed links. Our authentication provider delivers account email. Paystack processes Naira payments. These providers process information under their own security and privacy terms.
Cookies and advertising
Essential cookies support login, security and analytics integrity. If Google AdSense is enabled, Google may set additional cookies subject to your consent choices and Google’s policy. Direct sponsored placements are labelled and do not receive access to your account password or payment details.
Sharing and retention
Public articles, profiles, approved comments and published catalogue metadata are visible to others. Private account, report and order information is limited to authorised administration and necessary service providers. We retain records while needed for the service, dispute handling, tax/accounting obligations and security, then delete or anonymise them where practical.
Your choices and rights
You may edit your public profile, choose whether tracks permit downloads, request correction or deletion, and ask for an export of account information. Email verification and password reset links protect account recovery. Some records may be retained where required to resolve transactions, rights claims or legal obligations.
Contact and safeguards
We use role-based access, hashed passwords, expiring sessions, validated file signatures and controlled media routes. No system is risk-free; report suspected unauthorized access promptly. Privacy questions and deletion requests can be sent through the reporting page with the ‘Other concern’ category.
